Majolica Etruscian Shell and Seaweed American Antique Plate

Antique Majolica Shell and Seaweed by Griffen Smith and Hill is one of the most famous American Majolica designs. During the "Majolica Mania" of the 1880s Griffen Smith and Hill of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania became the preeminent American potter. The history of this company can be read starting on page 145 of "Majolica A Complete History and Illustrated Survey" by Marilyn G. Karmason with Joan B Stacke.

This small Shell and Seaweed plate is 6" in diameter. The colors are very vibrant and its in good vintage condition with the exception of a chip on the rim. It is still a very desireable majolica plate for anyone's collection. Please contact us with questions. This plate will ship properly packaged and insured.

Some minor damage is generally acceptable with antique majolica because of its age and soft clay body.
