Triode Sun Tube Overdrive Guitar Pedal [Kit/Assembled]
Read the full title Triode Sun Tube Overdrive Guitar Pedal [Kit/Assembled]
This guitar pedal can deliver both clean boost and soft tube overdrive using a 12AU7/ECC82 tube running at 18 volts. This offers more headroom and clarity in comparison other low voltage tube overdrive pedals while still allowing for soft breakup at higher gain settings. The internal buffer also allows it to be used as a simple DI box for direct recording into a sound card or mixer.
Check out my YouTube video on how I put these together and how they sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMW_dkRLX60
The sound demo starts about 12 minutes into the video.
The pedal comes in a compact and sturdy 3D printed enclosure measuring around 10cm by 6cm and features true bypass switching and two knobs to control the output volume and gain.
It can be powered using any center negative 9V DC guitar pedal power supply. A power supply is not included so you need to provide your own. Also it doesn't run off of batteries. Sorry…
Fully assembled version too expensive? Just get the kit!
The kit comes with all the parts and components you need to assemble it yourself, including the 3D printed enclosure.
Some additional tools like a soldering iron, screwdrivers, pliers and side cutters are required. You probably also want to have some basic knowledge on how to read a schematic and assemble stuff. Just saying.
Still too expensive? This pedal is completely open source and all build files can be found on my GitHub so you can make your own: https://github.com/NuclearLighthouseStudios/Triode-Sun

Oh my god so amazing oh my god so amazing oh my god so amazing oh my god oh my god oh my god so amazing
The pedal sounds amazing! with the distortion low, you get a smooth crunch with your clean signal, and turned up you get a nasty fuzz that's still got a clear tone underneath it so it doesn't sound muddy. Awesome! Easy to build, but I solder for work so I'm not a good judge on difficulty.
I soldered it myself and that was fun to do. However, if you don't understand schematics like I do, you'd better buy a ready-made one. It took me some effort to get the pedal to work. The distortion knob doesn't work but makes a sound. I somehow did something wrong. On the plus side, the pedal doesn't give off any kind of noise that I don't like.
Great shop, amazing pedals. I can't wait for new designs.
