Made with thousands of Swarovski's 'Ariadne's Thread' (Ar-ee-add-nee) came 9th place in the 2009 Swarovski Create Your Style Beading competition in Australia. The first two pictures are a more accurate representation of the colour while the third picture gives a better idea of the sparkle. Every bead used is a Swarovski so you can imagion the bling factor! The necklace is adjustable however it sets best on a slender neckline.

Weeks of work and thousands of Swarovski crystals went into the design. Just about every bead you see in the necklace is a Swarovski crystal. Although this necklace has a lot of bling, it is still very elegant as I have specifically chosen colours without any additional AB or other finishes for a more subtle sparkle.

Ariadne is a goddess of ancient Crete who was also known to be worshiped by the Celts. Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos of Crete. His wife had borne a hideous monster that was half-man and half-bull so Minos kept it locked in a labyrinth. Periodically the Minotaur needed to be fed and a number of Athenians would be put into the labyrinth for it to eat. Theseus was one of those chosen as a sacrifice. Ariadne had fallen in love with Theseus who had been cast into a labyrinth which was guarded by the minotaur. So Ariadne offered to help him escape if he in turn promised to marry her. She gave Theseus a long piece of thread to guide him out of the labyrinth.

Before they could wed, Theseus is said to have abandoned Adriadne on an island however the gods punished Theseus and he was swept out to sea. The god Bacchus found Ariadne and fell in love with her at first sight. He took the crown from her forehead and set it as a constellation in the sky to bring her eternal glory. Up through the air it soared and as it flew its jewels were changed into shining fires. They settled in position, still keeping the appearance of a crown, turning her into a constellation Corona Borealis. It is said that Ariadne spins the universe from the primordial darkness like a spider spins her web.
