This is a hand-blown glass Octopus sculpture made by hot glass artist Ron Murphy.

Notice the eyes are very realistic. We go to great lengths to accomplish this.

This Octopus sculpture is one of the first sea life animals that I started making as part of the Glassnfire line.

After studying more about using glass color I came across an article on and ancient process of making Murrine (common pluralization murrini) is an Italian term for colored patterns or images made in a glass cane (long rods of glass) that are revealed when cut in cross-sections. Murrine can be made in infinite designs—some styles are more familiar, such as millefiori. However I used the process to make realistic animal eyes!

The octopus is about 3-1/2 inches long, 3 inches wide

This Octopus sculpture was been inspired after observing them in various Aquariums. Denver Aquarium has a very nice octopus at the end of the aquarium tour, and I spent some time there studying her!

I also spend lots of time studying them on the internet and trying to get ideas and inspiration for sculpting them in glass.

I often take Photos of them or acquire pictures and then the process begins of using various forms of glass and colors to try to grasp the ideas and to get them to their final shape and color. It may take me a number of tries before I get one to come out successful.

Most items are a one of a kind. However we re-list some items so they may not be the originals. You probably won't be able to tell much difference between yours and the one pictured. Just be aware that small variations can occur with original art.
