The Centennial of the Bohemian National Cemetery Association of Chicago, Illinois 1877-1977

Established 1877
5255 North Pulaski
Chicago, Illinois

Excellent histories of the Bohemian National Cemetery can be found in this book, along with photographs of the wonderful funerary art, headstones, and sculptures here. This book was written for the 100th year anniversary of the Cemetery.

The Bohemian National Cemetery of Chicago is a Fraternal not for profit cemetery founded in 1877 by Bohemian, Moravian and Slovak immigrants and their descendants to provide a dignified place for burials free of religious restraints. The cemetery is available to all religions, nationalities and races. The Cemetery was founded in 1877 as a result of a Catholic priest denying burial in the Bohemian-Polish Catholic cemetery to those he disliked.
The celebration of the official opening of the Bohemian National Cemetery was held on September 2, 1877. The first public funeral was held on November 1, 1877.

The first 518 pages are in English.
The last 200 are in Czech.

The overall condition is good.
The Czech printing is on slightly different paper, and for some reason, it is a bit wavy (like when paper gets a little damp). It does not smell. There is no discoloration, except some dotting on the outside edges, when the book is closed, see photo.

Heavy book, with lots of photos.
Weighs 2.5 pounds / Media Mail 3 pound rate.

Very detailed accounting of the finances, board, construction and history of this amazing place.

This cemetery is an attraction, and tours are available. If you come to Chicagoland, be sure to check it out.
