Mary Washington Asparagus - Asparagus officinalis

One of the most popular varieties. Originating in the Mediterranean region, asparagus grows wild along roadsides in North America. The tender young stalks are picked in the spring. Unharvested stalks turn to fern like bushes over 4’ tall.

Asparagus started from seed will need an additional year of growing before harvesting, though the results are better than starting from crowns. Start seeds in well prepared permanent garden bed in spring & summer. Germination may take up to 20 days. Sow ½” deep & 6” apart. Prefers full sun.

Wonderful addition to a Forest garden or edible perennial garden. Good companion to tomatoes.

Seeds are hand packaged in resealable paper envelopes.

Minimum 50 seeds per packet.

Packed for 2014
