le rhinopome microphylle & le mormops bats

this is an ORIGINAL antique print from paris c. 1831

the print depicts two types of bats separately ~ one flashing his wing and one hanging out on a branch

it is an antique engraving that was hand coloured in natural colours at the time of printing in 1831

it measures 5 x 8" including about a half an inch of border surrounding the hairline border
the types of the bats ~in french - are engraved outside the border on the bottom of the print

it was printed in paris in 1831 - an included illustration of a natural history book titled
"a l'histoire naturelle générale et particular de buffon"
or in english "general and paticular natural history by buffon"
written by one of buffon's successors cuvier

buffon was a french naturalist said to be the "father of all thought in natural history in the second half of the 18th century"
cuvier was a french naturalist and zoologist. he was a major figure in natural sciences research in the early 19th century

a copy of the two title pages with the date, publisher and engraver's information is well as a portrait of cuvier will be included with the print

NB. this engraving is over 180 years old as such there are varying spots of foxing and aging... as well as some facing page text leeching on the prints...
