"The Backstretch" is a signed and numbered limited edition lithograph by Ernie Barnes, perhaps the preeminent American figurative artist of his generation.
Commissioned the Official Artist of the XXIII Olympiad by the Los Angeles Olympic Committee in 1984, Mr Barnes thru his long career as first a professional football player and later as a revolutionary artist depicting african american and black american life became recognized as one of America's most outstanding figurative artists.

As the owner of The FrameDesign Gallery in downtown Cleveland, Ohio from the mid 70's thru the late 90's, I sold his prints and limited edition's thru my gallery during that period. This framed piece is one of many signed and numbered lithographs that were representative of the body of work that I proudly carried with his name on it.

This lithograph was produced by Ernie in a relatively small edition and is # 290/300. It comes with a signed certificate of authenticity by the artist. It is 13x26 and double matted with an archival cotton rag inner mat and a conservation quality outer mat made of linen. The litho itself is hinged on 100% cotton rag and the entire package is framed in a beautiful ornate gold wood moulding. The glass is conservation quality glass. This painting has been framed since the mid 1980's and has been in my private collection since that time and is in perfect condition. The matted size is 20x31 and the finished frame size is 25x37.

Mr Barnes passed away in April of 2009 at the age of 70.

All materials used in the framing process are archival products commonly used in conservation framing. Acid free foam core is used as a backing behind the rag mats. All hanging materials necessary to mount on most wall surfaces are included.

This artwork should never be hung in direct sunlight and will do best if hung on an inner wall that does not expand and contract with temperature changes throughout the day.
