Vintage Coin Bracelet - 1930's - Egyptian - Gold Plated Coins - Link Bracelet. A unique piece of history from Egypt of the 1930's. It depicts King Farouk I coronation in 1936 at the age of 16. The bracelet is made up of 7 commemorative coins minted by the Progressive Industry Company. It is 14K gold plated. Some of the plating has come off, but it is generally in acceptable vintage condition. The bracelet closes with a spring closure ring and measures 7". Though he appears on these coins as a slim young man, King Farouk I was later to gain weight and be likened to "a stomach and a head." The bracelet by all accounts is an interesting collectible piece.

King Farouk I led a very glamorous lifestyle building dozens of palaces, and owning hundreds of cars. The youthful king would later lose his popularity because of his lavish lifestyle. He was especially criticized for it during the hardships of World War II. In 1952 Gamal Abdel Nasser staged a military coup that forced King Farouk to abdicate and go into exile in Monaco. The monarchy in Egypt was abolished and King Farouk I died in Italy in 1952.
