I like to think of this Ice Bucket as the Holy Grail of Dansk Teak collecting. This is the rarer, larger of the two Jens H Quistgaard "Congo" style Ice buckets (#811). The design was influenced by Viking ship construction. An old wooden bucket factory was saved in Denmark when Quistgaard put this item into production in 1955. It involved a stave and glue construction, which revolutionized mass produced woodworking.

This bucket is from the 1960's production, judging from the black plastic liner , and the made in Denmark , Dansk "4 ducks" logo on the base. The plastic liner on the interior is clean, intact and firmly attached.

The exterior has some surface damage (see last three photos) with one small dent or dimple approximately half an inch wide, and a 4 inch surface scrape, these are on only one side. The other side is pristine.

The bucket was dropped and one of the handles was chipped, thankfully the piece was a clean break and fit back tightly. This was professionally glued and clamped. The fix is seen on the last photo. The price reflects these imperfections. Frankly I don't really notice them. I have found other ice buckets with cracked staves and water damage marks more distracting. A beautiful piece even with these marks.

Teak is now a protected hardwood, so these are not made anymore. I love the look of this piece, so Mid-Century Modern!

The size is 19" high and 10" wide.
