Winchester Cathedral has some beautiful door knockers... not long ago a photo of one on a dramatic red door appeared on a magnificent Christmas card I was fortunate to receive. Made by some favorite cousins after their UK adventures earlier in the year, I was instantly in love. After admiring it all season, it worked it's way into my pile of sketches, reinterpreted as this pretty escutcheon, complete with imaginary key on a garnet jeweled chain. My key series was already spinning around in my head, and creating this necklace to add to my shop was not to be resisted.

The sterling escutcheon was hand fabricated and molded to make this limited edition piece, with a individually hand forged key and all the hand made rings and things that make it hang just so. The sterling connections join to some very pretty raw edged sari ribbons (found here on etsy!) in raspberry and pomegranate to complete the necklace. The bright raw ribbons and rich garnet touches add an exotic quality to the medieval theme. The silk, evocotive of long ago Arabian nights, holds a medieval secret... tales long forgotten wait to be uncovered.

This necklace is about 15" with a 2 1/4" extender, for a maximum length of 17 1/4". The escutcheon and key hang about 3 1/4" long. The escutcheon is a bit more than 1" wide, and the key is about 1 1/8" high, hanging on a garnet beaded chain 1 5/8" long.
