These niches are made from recycled cedar from old fences in the countryside of Southwest Louisiana. Each one is made by hand. The wood is old, weathered, and has imperfections, enhancing the rustic and antique appearance. The tiles are handpainted Talaveras. The niches can stand or hang: there is a hook on the back of the niche and another hook inside that is used to secure the statue. The statue is included in the price. The photograph shows St. Francis in the niche. Other statues that can fit in the niche are available on this site. They are: Hildegard, Julian of Norwich (9.5 inches in height), John of the Cross, St. Therese (large version), and Lao-Tzu. When ordering, please specify which statue you want. It is best not to let the tiles freeze, so it is recommended that the niches be brought inside during the winter in cold climates. Being from Southwest Louisiana, the niches don’t like prolonged freezes.
