This is a plastic copy of a classic google eyed dog bakelite pin.
Although it is of the same time period, this one is not bakelite, it is another type of war-time plastic. It is thinner and more crudely done than the bakelite version. We believe this was the work of a home crafter, possibly from a purchased kit or art class.

We are lucky enough to own 2 of the old googly eyed bakelite dogs (we have been collecting and seeking for many years), so I put them all together for a group photo. Although the one we are offering here is not bakelite, it is charming and fun (and a fraction of the cost.). It is hand carved, and accent painted with lead paint (the long lasting paint of choice from those days.)

Condition: One of the google eyes is slightly dented. Normal wear on paint.

Pin Back is heat set.

The doggie measures approx. 3" long.
Circa 1940s /50s USA

*The last photo is a group of carved plastic pins which are individually listed in our Etsy Store.

**We guarantee all of our items to be as described, including age.
We do not like new fake bakelite and would never sell it.
