This set of 8 handmade lampwork glass beads are replicas of ancient Viking beads. I've studied Viking glass beads and worked hard to capture their muted colors, aged textures and interesting details. The Vikings loved beads, and they were worn by men and women...women particularly acquired large collections, judging by grave goods found throughout the Viking world.

This set includes a mixture of styles. There are two meant to resemble carved ivory or bone, and two meant to look like amber. The rest are larger fancy beads, with raised dots meant to ward off the evil eye, a trailed or combed design, a deep grooved sea blue and a cube with handmade checkerboard murrine. They are deeply etched and dusted with enamels, weathered and crackled with a crusty, pitted, ancient appearance.
These range from 6mm up to 18mm from hole to hole. The largest is 14mm across. Made on 1/16" mandrels the hole size is about 2mm.

Handmade by me...self-representing artist Karen Elmquist... in my teeny tiny studio on the shores of beautiful Lake Huron. I use a Nortel Minor Bench Burner and beautiful Italian, Japanese and German glass. My beads are made with love and carefully kiln annealed overnight for lasting strength. All bead release is cleaned out with a diamond bead reamer. I hope you'll enjoy wearing them as much as I do making them!

Warning!! Lampwork beads are ADDICTIVE!!!
