It just doesn't get any better than this. Our historical Venetian Plague Doctor mask tells a grim, yet enthralling story dating back hundreds of years. The Plague Doctor is also a character from Commedia dell' Arte. The bulbous nose is the most prominent feature, however his grimace is equally foreboding. This makes an excellent and unique gift option for a friend or loved one. Order now.

The story for the dottore is as such: During the 1500's, Venice was suffering from a severe infestation of the Plague, resulting in the death of over 30% of the inhabitants. Doctors were called to assist those stricken by the plague and they would wear these masks during their visits, stuffing medicinal herbs into the beak of the mask, to avoid breathing in the disease. If you seek a mask that offers tradition and art for Venice, this mask is perfect for you.

This mask measures 11.5 x 6.5 inches.
