Black and White shares some DNA with those illustrations in your biology textbook – except that this one is an original watercolor painting. Starts with a single cell on the top left and continues through the cycle until it ends up with 2 daughter cells on the bottom right. All in various shades of black and gray with white accents. Perfect for your lab, office, or to add a little art and science to any small space.

This painting was made using a wet-in-wet technique. After I draw a grid on the paper, I paint the squares and allow them to dry. Next, I re-wet a cell-shaped area, wait a few seconds, and then add a second color of wet paint. The paint “bleeds” naturally, creating either a “cell” with awesome natural fractal patterns or a big old blob. If the former occurs, I wait a few more seconds and add another color – the nucleus. Then I do this a few more times.

Painted with Winsor and Newton Artist’s Watercolors on extra heavy Arches paper (300lb).

Overall size 11 x 14 inches, including acid-free white mat and backing board. Standard size for easy framing. Signed.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR PAINTING, NOT A PRINT. THERE IS ONLY ONE
