.I made this eagle in the style of a late 1800's carver, John Bellamy, who became quite famous for creating eagles for the ship building industry, and working in this dramatic style has been a favorite way for me to create these patriotic carvings.
The head is a separate piece glued to the 3/4" body and carved to flow with the figure. There is a staff and flowing banner that reads "E Pluribus Unum" above the eagle, and he is holding a red, white and blue flag banner in his claws. Every thing I carve is completely done by hand with knives and chisels, and the only power tool I use is a bandsaw for the preliminary outline. There is a metal hanging bracket on the back. Can be hung outdoors and only gets better looking as it ages!!!
Overall the carving measures 28" by 15" and is 3/4" thick. The entire carving has been given an overall aged finish.
This is a perfect piece for anyone who loves America!!
As always each piece is signed and dated.

I have several hundred patterns I use as the basic profile of my pieces. The profile is transferred onto the wood and then cut out with a band saw. ...Beyond that power tool every single bit of wood is removed using drawknives, spokeshaves, chisels and knives which I have mostly made from scratch. This means every piece will be slightly different, so please take that into account. I try to repeat the look of every item to the previous one I made but there will be differences. Any of the items you see can be custom made to your specifications.
