This patriotic eagle has been done in the style of a famous 19th century carver. The head is a separate piece glued to the 3/4" body and carved to flow with the figure. There is a staff and flowing banner that reads "E Pluribus Unum" above the eagle, and he is holding a red, white and blue flag banner in his claws. Every thing I carve is completely done by hand with knives and chisels, and the only power tool I use is a bandsaw for the preliminary outline. There is a metal hanging bracket on the back.
Overall the carving measures 28" by 15" and is 3/4" thick. The entire carving has been given an overall aged golden finish.
I made this eagle in the style of a late 1800's carver, John Bellamy, who became quite famous for creating eagles for the ship building industry, and working in this dramatic style has been a favorite way for me to create these patriotic carvings.
As usual I sign and date all my work for identification. (Item #1056)
