This hardcover book is a primer for elementary school children.

It is the 1896 "Stories of the United States for Youngest Readers",by Anna Chase Davis.

This is a first edition and a classic which has been reprinted as recently as 2010. as the original text, gives readers the full historical experience. Published by Educational Publishing Co, 1896 Boston, New York. Chicago, San Francisco.

This book is an extremely rare find!!

It is filled with marvelous examples of misinformation, including starting with Lesson One regarding the natives. "They were Red Men. They were fierce and cruel." It paints explorers like Balboa as heroic and Columbus as kind to the natives.

The chapter documenting the Salem witch hunt states, "In these days we would say that children who behaved as they did were crazy."

There is some pencil writing on the front cover, "M.E. Wilbur, Subs Premium. Pri. Ed."

The edges of the cover of this book shows some wear and the corner of oe page has been torn (see image 4), but overall, it is in excellent condition.
The binding is tight and the pages are clean. There are many illustrations as well.

A real collectors treasure!!
