Some manufacturers use other metals that can cost more then copper, but don't tarnish as quickly. Commonly used in the better quality chains is Zinc. Zinc is a very hard white metal, these chains have a very white appearance. Lower quality chains, I don't carry, use nickel, often the cause of allergic reactions.
