Daybreak just ahead of the actual dawn is an elusive fleeting time of day. It's that moment when you can witness via the sky the speed with which our lovely planet is turning. As an artist I enjoy the subtle muted colors the sky and clouds present and how those colors are reflected back to the prairie grasses. Angus cattle are still bunched up from the evening and so their individual shapes are secondary to the overall shape of the group mass.

In this work I minimized details in everything. This relates to the time of day--when details are still unclear before the actual dawning of the sun. This painting exhibits much information about my process - which is linear and sketched in with paint and brush. I layered the colors so I would not obliterate the quality of line throughout the work.

This can be a relaxing painting to look at. And, although my title indicates a morning sky, this particular arrangement and colors would also suggest that part of the eveninjg when the sun has just set but the sky is still filled with the fading light.
