Pea Pod Photo Prop Knitting and Crochet Pattern for Newborn Photography

PLEASE NOTE: This is a set of instructions, not the physical object. Once you have paid, you will receive an email with instructions for downloading your pattern pdf, along with 3 other files about needle and yarn, making dpn's and newborn photography and digital editing.

This pattern includes two sizes, newborn and a longer version for twin newborns.
Now also available as a crochet pattern. Check my other listings for #212.

I've included lots of information about how to use various thicknesses of yarn. So just about any green yarns will work. These pictures show a little of that variety. You can make it very, very simply, or add the stem-and-sepals part that really make it whimsical

Literally THOUSANDS of savvy young photographers have become knitters, or enlisted a friend or relative to venture into this genre.

"Is this an easy knit?" you ask. Well, I'll tell you this: The outer pod part is very simple, but it is a good workout for the fingers, so please don't ask your grandma to make this one! Have her teach YOU, at last! The stem and sepals part is not very challenging, either, and there are videos all over the Internet of the few skills you may not already have.

I am never far from my computer, so consider me your "Tech Support" when you take on this knitting project. It is not a quick knit, but pretty fun to do, and what a cool prop it makes!

This pattern includes instructions for knitting peas in tennis ball or grapefruit size. The peas make great spacers, or can be posed outside the pea pod, just to add a little interest to the photo.

The diaper cover pattern is sold separately here:

I would also recommend getting the cocoon/pod pattern:
The "bowl" looks amazing inside the outer pea pod, and is wonderful to use, settling baby into the inner part first, then popping him/her into the outer pea pod, and lifting back out for pictures in the "bowl" alone. You can knit that bowl shallow, as pictured, or deeper for a rolled brim effect, seen in my pricey soft sculpture version of this prop:

Permission is granted to sell the items you make using this pattern. But the pattern is copyrighted, and distribution of it is not allowed, of course.

Special thanks to one of may pattern buyers for the Sweet Pea picture of her granddaughter. This is what it's all about! Thanks go to my daughter Elizabeth for another great photo, and to Jamie Gadd of Tiny Souls in Charlotte.
