The people of the Easter Islands were excellent navigators. They were able to find their way through an endless expanse of blue ocean without modern devices, almost miraculously. How did they accomplish this feat? Simple. There is a plant that grows in the coral reefs of the Easter Islands. While I was vacationing there, I happened to come across it and I acquired a sample to bring back home. This is that plant. If you will notice, the leaves show charts of the ocean in which they grow. By observing the petal patterns, the navigators were able to guide their way anywhere.

And now, for the first time in the long and rich history of Etsy, you too can own a prime sample of this fine floral specimen. This is an ikebana bonsai format of the species, measuring 4 inches in base diameter and approximately 14 inches in height, since the full adult version has a span of over 30 feet, and that is difficult to ship. So. I discovered how this origami plant folds itself, and it was grown with assistance from the water sorceress Tanja Sova (tanjasova.etsy.com).
