In almost every culture, the image of an open palm conveys the same meaning: openness, listening, a willingness to accept what is given. For some, the open palm means “welcome” or “I hear you.” For some, it signifies giving oneself over to a higher power. And for some, it is a kind of pledge to live in the moment—to notice and accept hunger in the same way that you would notice and accept a feeing of fullness.

I meticulously carved this small hand from wax, paying careful attention to detail and doing my best to capture its humanness. ThenI cast it in sterling silver. It has a satisfying weight to it, and measures a little over an inch from the top of the bale to the tip of the index finger. I’ve given the pendant and chain a rich, dark patina to accentuate the details and to give the piece an heirloom quality. It hangs from a beautiful, vintage-feeling sterling rolo chain that is at once delicate and substantial, and the clasp is accentuated by a small quartz stone that catches light beautifully. Please let me know whether you'd like a 16" or 18" chain when you check out (if you don't specify, I'll give you an 18" chain). Longer lengths are also available for an additional cost.

You can wear it to show that you value the work that hands do—drawing, cutting fruit, writing math problems out in pencil. Or you can wear it to show your openness to accepting what is given—that from above, or here on earth.

This item will arrive beautifully packaged.

Please let me know if you would like me to wrap it as well and add a hand-written notecard. Leave me a note in "notes to seller" telling me what you'd like the card to say.
