Stuart McGuire
Made in England
leather
Size 9 1/2 to 10 D
1960's

**Read this before continuing: Stuart McGuire, founded in 1962 & based out of Virginia, manufactured bench made men's shoes in the classic tradition. They were good quality, but their top-of-the-line was manufactured in England by Loake. There seems to have been a steady decline beginning in the 70's when they went to a mail order format. About 1980, the name/company was sold off and the shoes being produced were/are poorly made and possess none of the qualities Stuart McGuire was known for early on. The McGuires retailing today have NOTHING to do with these shoes.**

These shoes are of the finest quality, hand crafted, in a desirable Dark Chestnut coloration. Chestnut, a reddish brown that over time, with proper maintainance and care, take on a unique patina...darker at the edges and lighter in the field. This desirable patina was faked in the late sixties and 70's by basically airbrushing color onto inferior, usually synthetic, outer materials. These are dyed leather.

All leather, full brogueing... perforations and serration...expert attention to detail and construction. Goodyear welted leather soles, combination heel with sandwiched rubber edge and handset nails. Interior is completely lined in calf skin. Insoles & arches have all manufacturer gilt inking with almost no sign of wear. Exterior, near perfect with one tiny scratch on inside of right shoe(insignificant), and just a bit of creasing behind toes. Soles show wear, but nothing out of the ordinary, just light, honest, occasional use. Some earmarks of hand made workmanship evident on soles, tool marks & 'wheeling'.

A beautiful and heirloom pair of shoes in near new condition. For the price, one cannot even come close to the same quality in a new shoe. Most appropriate for daytime dress and business attire, but more than formal enough for evening.

NOTE: Marked '4950' by the manufacturer. It is a code that translates to: Last # 4 size, Size 9.5 (9 1/2)...judging from experience and my feet, I would say this is accurate for US sizing.
