In this one-of-a-kind piece, I used geometric forms and gemstones in shades of black, yellow, and orange to play with color, movement, and composition. The centerpiece of the necklace is made of three charms that are held in place along a bar. Each one can swing around independently. Although the shapes are abstract, I always had the nighttime sky in mind – brilliant stars glittering in the dark sky and the side of the moon that hides in shadow.

The necklace features two black star sapphires, as well as four citrines in both yellow and orange. The crescent moon charm that dangles from the orange citrine is made from shakudo, a traditional copper and gold alloy from Japan that turns a dark brown-purple when a patina is applied.

I constructed the clasp and end caps to match the visual vocabulary of the pendant – the clasp is joined to the foxtail chain by rivets. Except for the shakudo crescent, all the metal in the piece is sterling silver.

The necklace’s total length is approximately 18”. The central pendant is 1.5” wide and about 1” in height.
