The Hellebore is in competition with the Anemone as my favorite flower. It is a marvel to see this flower bloom in the last weeks of January, valiant and graceful in the wintry landscape. When I am feeling the burdens of the world I put one flower in my old tarnished green frog in a bowl of water, and instantly I am cheered. This print is part of a series called "Sweet Old World" which honors the beauty of vintage antiques, lost objects, and the beauties of the garden. In a modern world filled with the stress of perpetual newness I look in this series for relief from the present day. Nostalgia? Wistfulness? Why not? Who wouldn't want to hang on to beauty? I adore the patinas of age and weather, and the ethos of what the Japanese call "wabi sabi." In these pieces I combine my own watercolor painting with original photography, and print as seamless images that feel like relics from another age. The inspiration is the tintypes of the last century, with their accidental scratches and markings and watery pools of dark and light.
Prints are meticulously proofed and printed on Moab Natural, an archival paper, with pigment inks rated to last for 100 years or more. The prints come with a certificate of authenticity verifying the edition number and the edition size.
Framing: Prints are sold unframed. The prints are sized to fit standard Ikea frame 12.5 x 16.5
Packaging Detail: Prints are shipped flat in a sturdy cardboard mailer.

The world is a complexity of textures. Iskra understands that, makes it art. Makes it a story that will live you, deeply.

I originally saw this piece at the SAM Gallery in Seattle. For the past two years I have been pining over purchasing the work for my home. I reached Iskra and was able to coordinate a purchase of a limited edition print. She was extremely responsive and I was able to setup an in person pickup. I can't wait until I get "Repose" back from the framer and it's hanging on my wall.
