Hand pulled print on cotton paper, Conversion is printed from two collagraph plates. One constructed using the texture of refuse (garbage) to denote the landfill site; and one constructed using wild flowers gathered from the meadow growing over the landfill site. Each plate is inked with several intaglio colours each time it is printed. The wild flower plate is also inked a la poupèe (extra ink carefully dabbed onto the surface of the flowers for each print. A collagraph is rather like printing from a collage.

This print is a prayer of contrition for what we do to the land and a prayer for thanksgiving for the power of nature to reclaim a damaged site. This meadow in Exeter, Devon, Britain, is growing over 30foot of rubbish and has become very important for wildlife in the city. Being situated between housing estates the site would have been built on if it wasn’t for being an old landfill site. Water that flows through the landfill site picks up heavy metals that are now cleansed by a reed bed.

Each print is hand-pulled by me. This particular print is number 7 of a limited edition of 7.
The 17cm x 31.5cm plates are inked with quality oil-based intaglio and relief inks and printed with an etching press onto a 24.5cm x 36cm piece of quality Somerset cotton velvet paper 300gm.

The print is signed, titled and numbered in pencil. It is also embossed with a small version of my workshop's logo. The embosser is also made by myself.

This artwork was conceived and created solely as an original fine art print. Unlike a gicleé print or any other computer print out, none of my prints are reproductions of a pre-existing painting or drawing .

I like to use top quality heavy weight paper (this one is Somerset 100% cotton, Velvet, 300gm) so It is best not to roll up prints for posting, especially when the printing process results in a fair amount of embossing. I will therefore only ship my prints flat and protected with card.
