Red Sun is a striking stained glass prairie-style light catcher, which will look absolutely fabulous hanging where it can catch the light.

I make these in my home-based studio, so each one is hand-crafted and absolutely unique. I have used glass of different textures and effects, combining deep red for the sun, complemented by streaky white, sunshine yellow and royal blue to stunning effect. The red sun disc takes on a life of its own when the light shines through. This is real stained glass, not painted on!

Red Sun is created using the traditional Tiffany technique and the solder is finished off with a black patina, finally polished up with carnauba wax to give everlasting shine.
Approx 22 x 8 cm (8.5 x 3 in), it comes ready to hang with two soldered rings and a red ribbon. I can also make Red Sun using other colourways, so if you are interested, let me know. Look out for my other prairie-style designs. The make interesting gift ideas, especially if you know someone who is a fan of the architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.

The prairie style is based on buildings designed by Wright. At the turn of the last century, his distinctively personal style was evolving, and “prairie style” was a term coined following the publication in 1901 of A Home in a Prairie Town. Wright’s prairie houses consisted of broad open spaces instead of strictly defined rooms, as he deliberately blurred the distinction between interiors and the surrounding terrain. Wright did not aspire simply to design a house, but to create a complete environment, and he believed that “the architect is a moulder of men, whether or not he consciously assumes the responsibility”.
