This is an authentically reproduced Civil War shelter half, type 2a according to Fred Gaede's terminology. Perfect for campaigners and mainstream reenactors alike.

The half tent is machine assembled from 3 panels of cotton drill, seamed vertically. Hems, corner reinforcements, buttonholes, and grommets are hand stitched with sturdy linen thread.

The shelter half measures approximately 66"X63" and is complete with 23 bone buttons and matching buttonholes (9 across the top and 7 on each side). Two or more of these can be buttoned together to make a complete tent.

The bottom corners have rope loops for stakes, and the tent comes with one 6' guy rope so the tent may be assembled without a ridge pole. Ropes are 1/4" hemp or manila line, per originals.

The shelter half weighs approximately 1 3/4 pounds, a much lighter burden compared to those big, heavy sutler grade tents.

I have used great attention to detail to reproduce these tents based on extant originals. Per originals, these tents are not chemically treated or pre-shrunk. Slight shrinkage over time may be expected.

This type of tent is common for Federal Civil War soldiers from the Spring of 1862 through the remainder of the war. They were issued one per man, so that two men could assemble one tent. Even company officers were issued these tents on campaign, as the burden on the supply lines became to heavy for larger tents.
