Vintage Frankoma Wagon Wheel cup and saucer glazed in Prairie Green - 1950s Southwestern Pottery cup. This stunning Frankoma Wagon Wheel mug was made some time after 1954, when the company began using the red clay from Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

This beauty is about 2.75" tall by almost 3" across, not counting the handle. It's in perfect condition, no chips, no cracks, no crazing. There is a small "dimple" in the clay on the top rim, which was simply glazed right over. The saucer is also mint.

If you aren't familiar with the story of the very durable and collectible southwestern pottery called Frankoma, here's a very brief and interesting story! It was founded by Chicagoan, John Nathaniel Frank, shortly after he moved west to teach ceramic pottery at the Univeristy of Oklahoma. He founded "Frank Potteries" shortly after he married in 1928, which was renamed "Frankoma", while still teaching. Of special interest is that there are two kinds of clays, from two different eras. The first type of clay ran out so they had to find a new source. Back then, "shopping local" was the only viable way, and of course, Oklahoma clay was used!

Anyway, I'm happy you found this fabulous authentic vintage Frankoma Wagon Wheel pottery here at My sister shop is, featuring my pet and people portraits and art.
