This intriguing instrument is called the Audubon Bird Call, made by Roger Eddy in the 50s. It's in the original packaging and still has it's capsule of rosen to maintain the sound. The instructions on the back tell you to twist it, and I swear, bird sounds come out of it! So cool! Made of pewter and birchwood. Great condition, great sound. Great gift idea for the hikers in your life. This would be great as a pendant on of your necklaces. The call itself is about 2 inches in length. The box measures 3 1/4" by 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" deep. The back of the bird call is imprinted "Patent applied for." A truly fun and rare find.
