1930 Art Deco Lavender Design Metal Box VestieSteam with Boudoir Beauty
I thought at first that I was going to open a metal jewelry/ memento box. Surprise. This gorgeous art deco box originally held a Universal Deluxe Heating Pad manufactured by the Landers Frary & Clark Co out of New Britain Conn.
Box measures 12 1/2' L X 7 1/2" W X 3" H. What you see on the inside bottom of the tin is the original paper label that has adhered to the bottom. The rust you see is surface rust and does not penetrate thru the box. I have not attempted to clean the tin. What a tribute to the early days when electricity was in its infancy. Great decorative tin very display worthy and a great storage tin. Wonderful Stash Box. With the addition of a piece 0f felt or fabric of your choice this would make a unique memorablia box.

Here's a bit of history about the company. The Company was started in 1865. The first "Universal" appliance appeared in 1912 when a "thermo cell" electric iron was introduced. Percolators, toasters and ranges soon followed.
By 1915 it was already making electric ranges. Then came World War I when all production was devoted to military needs the number of products manufactured by Landers over the years was enormous and their scope amazing. They made stainless steel bull-nose rings and electric ranges, kitchen scales and vacuum bottles, window hardware and ice skates, mouse traps and percolators, can openers, cutlery and aluminum cookware, and thousands of other products Sadly the company was bought out by GE during the early 1960's..
