Needle Felted Yellow Pepper

Remember your mom saying "Eat your vegetables!"? Well, this vegetable is not on the edible list. It was sculpted with wool. The process is called needle felting and it involves stabbing the wool with a needle that has tiny barbs on its sides. This causes the wool fibers to interlock with each other. Each time the wool is pierced with the needle, the sculpture becomes more dense.

I begin my wool sculptures with a white core wool and concentrate on getting the shape right. Then I layer colored wool on top of that and needle felt it over the white. I like to try for as much realism as possible. The height of the pepper is 3 3/4" and the width at the fattest part is 3 1/4".

The bottom picture shows the three peppers I have together. This listing is only for the yellow pepper.
