Vintage old African vulcanite disc beads in a rusty red chocolate brown colour. 11mm in diameter and a 6" strand. Pristine condition. An absolute must for your authentic ethnic designs.

"Vulcanite is a hard, moldable rubber that has been formed by “vulcanizing” natural rubber through a curing process that involves high heat and the addition of sulfur. The result is a hard substance sometimes called “ebonite” that was used in the Victorian period to make mourning jewelry, combs, ornaments and buttons. Queen Victoria was known to wear it in tribute to her deceased husband, Albert. Today vulcanite it popularly used in the form of “heishi” in strands of beads." Africa Direct.

Please note: I do not charge a handling fee nor do I charge for bubble wrap. The postage charge listed is for the padded bag and estimated postage. If you pay with paypal and I have charged more than the actual cost, I will certainly issue a paypal refund for the overpayment. I will post your purchase the day after payment is received.

All my vintage beads and buttons are in very good original vintage condition. Please remember that they are hand made and will not be perfectly identical in size or shape. Also, they are vintage and, in most cases unused, but small fleabites are to be expected. I recommend a wash in mild dishwashing detergent and a thorough rinse to remove any surface dust before you use them in your creations.
