Wood burning of
"Tufted Titmouse" bird or Baeolophus bicolor
by Scott Ferry
"I originally saw this bird a lot here in central Florida, so it became one of my top birds to illustrate and get it noticed. It has a special place in my heart every time i see it when out bird watching or hiking here. You can of course see it in a large amount of areas in North America mostly in the East." - Scott Ferry
This is a small songbird from North America, a species in the tit and chickadee family (Paridae). Relatively "larger than a chickadee", the black-crested titmouse, found from central and southern Texas southwards, was included as a subspecies but is now considered a separate species.
These small birds are approximately 6 inches in length, with a white front, and grey upper body outlined with rust colored flanks. Other characteristics include their black forehead, and the tufted grey crest on their head.
The bird's habitat is deciduous and mixed woods as well as gardens, parks and shrub-lands. Though the tufted titmouse is non-migratory and originally native to Ohio and Mississippi, factors such as bird feeders have caused these birds to occupy a larger amount of territory across the United States and stretching into Ontario, Canada. From 1966 - 2015 the tufted titmouse population has increased by more than 1.5% per year throughout the northeastern US, Michigan and Wisconsin.
This is an original illustration and wood burning on basswood. There is a hangar on the back to hang it on the wall. The artwork is signed with my initials on front.
Size is 5.5"x5.5".

Beautiful and unique hand made piece. Good quality wood, gorgeous design and just the right amount of shine to the paint. Love that it is double sided. We have it hanging on our front door to enjoy seeing daily. Thank you so much for the craftsmanship!
