I kind of like the old-fashioned name for this style of serving piece— "compote." That's what my grandmother would have called it, but to me it's a footed bowl. The shape is sort of sexy, don't you think? A little wasp-waisted beauty. Whatever you choose to call it, it will look equally wonderful holding an artful display of fruit or candy, or rocks if you like. It is, like so-oo-oo much of my work, inspired by ceramics of the mid-century.

The foot and bowl of this piece were separately wheelthrown in stoneware clay, and then attached. The simplicity of the glazing design belies the painstaking three-step decorating process involving (automotive!) pinstriping tape, wax resist, and multiple glaze dips in satin black and a toasty yellow orange glaze known as Winokur.

The glaze is food safe, should you choose to use it as a rather *ahem* large wine goblet. And, like all of my stoneware work, dishwasher-, microwave- and oven-safe.

Measures 9" high x 8 1/2" at the widest part of the bowl - in stock and ready to ship—just click "Add to Cart."
