Vintage West Bend Ovenette Stovetop Oven

Bob prided himself on being prepared. Maybe it was from his Boy Scout days or maybe it was the fact he and his family lived in rural Idaho (not off the grid but definitely at the end of the grid.) So back in early '99 when the Y2K fears were THE topic of conversation down at the Grange hall, he decided he better stock up on some supplies. Amongst the ubiquitous M.R.E.'s and canned food items, Bob decided his family needed some kind of device that could bake on a camp stove. After all heated up beans get old real fast. At a vintage store, He found a nifty West Bend Ovenette. The Ovenette had a thermometer in the lid and it could be set on top of a stove and used to bake anything from a cake to a roast.

Well Y2K came and went with no civil upheavals or even the hint of a power outage for that matter. Bob was a little disappointed that he couldn't pull out the Ovenette to have his wife bake a cake in the midst of chaos. Then in the winter of 2009, during the worst snowstorm on record, the power finally went out. With the power outage, Bob's eyes lit up, his whole demeanor changed as he was transformed right before his family's eyes into a 'Survival-Warrior-Man." Out came the vintage West Bend Ovenette. An hour later, the family was enjoying fresh-baked cupcakes as the lights flickered back on. They had overcome an hour and a half of adversity in style thanks to the forethought of Bob. There is no cupcake that tastes as good as one eaten during a crisis.
