Oh how I wish a Quilt could talk.............the days and hours I have spent wondering the History of this Quilt and just a peak into the lives of these 20 these Women who stitched it together.

This is a cotton, Pinwheel/Floral (?) design. It has a soft bluish white backing with a green wide trim. It has been machine sewn and hand basted and hand tied.

The condition is pretty good for it's age. It does have several seam open that will need to be repaired. It is fairly clean with no major stains. I am no expert but that is my opinion for such an old Historic Quilt.

The colors are pretty good for its age but it has faded. The prints for that era are pretty. Assorted in color and design and gives a great variety of that time.

This Quilt has 20 signatures and in the middle it has the Signature of Flavie Shirley and dated 1938.

This Quilt Measure 80" x 58".

Feel Free to ask any questions you have.

May the new owner have the love and appreciation of the work it took these ladies together to make this quilt back in 1938.

Additional Information: I was contacted by a Historian who was interested in looking up the history of this quilt. This is what she wrote to me:

Hello,

I thought you might be interested to learn a little history that I found of this beautiful quilt!

I often look on Ebay and Etsy for Vintage / Antique quilts. And I LOVE the signature quilts. I am also a genealogist and love history.

I came across your quilt the other day and just had to do a little digging to see if I could find out where your quilt came from.

I found a few things I thought you might be interested in. :)

It appears your quilt has come from the township of Guthrie, in Lawrence County, Indiana.

I have found several of the signatures on the 1940 census for that town.

I also discovered that at least two of the women were members of the White River Baptist church at the time of their death. Helen Sherfick and Emma Freeman. (I haven't searched for other names)

I also discovered that Pearl Hobbs was the daughter of Flavie Shirley.

The ages of the women appear to be from 20 years old to 50+ years of age.

I would guess this quilt was for a fundraiser for the church. And most likely a raffle quilt. But it's hard to say. :)

I was so happy she shared that information and I love it even more. I may have to take a drive thru that town sometime, which is not so far away.
