I am not an expert on hatpins. But my basic understanding about them is that the longer the pin, the older it is likely to be, because the length of the pin corresponds to the size of the hats that it was used to pin to a woman's hair. So a really long pin would be more likely to correspond to pre-World War I hat, when large hats and pins were popular, while shorter pins would be older or newer, depending on the materials used and the style. So I'm estimating the age of this shorter pin around the 1920s to 1930s. At 4 1/8" long it is fairly demure as hatpins go. The design consists of a sphere of clear, prong-set rhinestones, capped with a band of much smaller rhinestones and a single bead. It's simple, yet full of sparkle and shine.

Condition is generally very good. There are a few little flea bites in some of the rhinestones that are not particularly noticeable. There is also a bit of glue deposit at the very top. The metal could be cleaned or left as is. Wearing and collecting hatpins has really become a bit of a lost pursuit, which is unfortunate. If you enjoy vintage hats, you should really consider investing in some pins not only to wear, but as works of art in themselves.
