This is a wonderful vintage souvenir spoon. The sterling silver spoon is from State Normal, Peru, Nebraska (a.k.a. Peru State College). It is embellished on the handle with a flowers and what appear to be masonic symbols. The bowl of the spoon is engraved with "STATE NORMAL PERU,NEBR." and an image of a campus building. The back of the spoon is marked "P & B STERLING" (P, &, and B are each enclosed in a heart symbol). It was produced by the Paye & Baker Manufacturing Company which operated from 1901-1952 when it became part of the Bishop Company. Paye & Baker operated out of North Attleboro, MA. Peru State College was founded as the Mount Vernon School in 1865. Its name was changed to Nebraska State Normal School in 1867 and later to Peru State College in 1963. The spoon measures 6" (15.2 cm) long and 1.25" (3.2 cm) across the bowl of the spoon. It is in great vintage condition and would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
