Day 8/100

Shaker Lake

There are two Shaker Lakes: lower Shaker Lake (this one here) and upper Shaker Lake (more commonly called Horseshoe Lake). I was surprised to come across this lake the first time I went running in Cleveland - it’s half a mile away from the apartment but well concealed by trees. You would never happen to run across a little lake on a normal jog in LA! This is now a stop on my regular running route. There are a lot of animals around here: a sloww mama turtle laying eggs (really!), a water rat swimming near the bank, great blue herons, those darn Canadian geese, deer, squirrels galore, and plenty of happy dogs on and off leashes. I’ve seen a couple push a kayak into the lake from a point pretty close to where I was sitting for this picture, and a bagpiper practicing his tunes before a wedding reception by a mulch pile just around the bend of the lake. There are always people relaxing on the bridge in the late afternoons and on weekend mornings. When I brought my mom here, she was surprised that such a beautiful spot was so untouched by people. “If this were Taiwan, there would be people and families crowded all around us grilling lots of meat”
