....And anon there strikes the ebony clock which stands in the hall of the velvet, and then for a moment all is still and all is silent, save the voice of the clock.......

Altered art Halloween mixed media collage, assemblage is entitled "HAUNTING TIME" and is an upcycled WORKING clock! I replaced the broken hands with new brass and motor which runs on one "AA" battery. This measures 17 3/8" high by 12.5" wide by 5" thick. There is a wooden witch screwed into the top flying on her broomstick of raffia, a crepe paper skeleton with glitter and paper arms reaching around to the front, an antique photo of a man with creepy eyes wearing a witches hat, and there is a poem from an antique song book entitled
"Grandfather's Clock" decoupaged on top and it has a decorative black glittered adhesive papter trim.

On the base are cut lines from and Edgar Allan Poe story book entitled "The masque of the Red Death" as quoted above, a vintage funeral card that reads "In Loving Memory", a silk black rose with glittered edges, a pile of skulls, lots of black bats and spiders. The back has old playing cards and I lined it with black halloween paper featuring orange pumpkins and which can be opened on one side to allow for battery replacement and finally the clock is covered in fine spider webbing.

My grandfather's clock was too large for the shelf, so it stood ninety years on the floor. It was taller by half than the old man, himself, Though it weighed not a pennyweight more. It was bought on the morn' of the day that he was born, and was always his treasure and pride. But it stopp'd short, never to go again, When the old man died. Ninety years, without slumbering tick, tock, tick, tock, His life seconds numbering tick, tock, tick, tock, It stopp'd short never to go again , When the old man died.
