A set of 4 beautiful industrial modern Good Form, General Fireproofing side chairs from the 50's. Made in Youngstown, Ohio and are constructed of aluminum and vinyl. General Fireproofing started making all aluminum chairs in 1932, and originally the chairs were made in response to the need to "fireproof" the skyscrapers, as many lost their lives in those early multi-story buildings. GF made the chairs until WWII when they stopped making furniture and started making airplane parts. After the war they began making the chairs again and continued until some time in the 70's when they quit making many of their old designs.

As far as the age of these chairs goes, 3 of the chairs here were made in 1955 and 1 was made in 1959, if I'm reading the marks stamped into the legs and the stickers correctly. This set of chairs is in very fine shape with minimal signs of wear throughout. The brushed aluminum of the legs and back of the chairs is quite pretty and the pictures do it no justice at all! The vinyl is in very good shape as well considering its age, and seems very tough. There are only the tiniest couple of edge tears and minor spots over the 4 chairs; none of which are really noticeable without looking closely for them.

All chairs still retain labels of one sort or another underneath and also have a serial numbers from a previous owner etched into the back upper rim of the chair. Two of the chairs also have an additional number etched into the top edge of the chair as well (see pict). These little letters and numbers do not detract from how nice looking these chairs are, and to the contrary serve as evidence of their prior lives elsewhere and how well they have held up. These chairs are just as tough as they are pretty and they will survive nicely in just about any situation you throw them into.

Seat height is 17", Back of the chair height is 31"

Seat is 17" wide

Depth of chair (from front to back) is 21"
