Titled "The First Hope"; a steel engraving. A print, book plate from the Art Journal; blank back. New York; D. Appleton & Co.

It's another wonderful engraving/book plate from an antique book, damaged beyond repair.

Dimensions: page is about 9 1/4" by 12 1/2"; back is blank. Image will fit in an opening about 7 3/4" by 11 1/2"; leaving a 1/8" area around the image & its caption.

The image is sharp & black & white. The paper is heavy & is a creamy color; it doesn't come across that way in the scan, but the black is very black; wonderful contrast & detail. Unfortunately, this image has suffered from early damage from moisture; it would be minimized or covered by a mat; especially if you don't include the caption. It's old damage; there is no odor. The image is still wonderful & I've priced it accordingly.

All my listings calculate for combined shipping. Let me know if you have any questions about the item or shipping.
