This listing is for your choice of Padauk, Walnut, Cherry, or Purple Heart with Curly Maple bottoms and detail ring. This is Capt. John Coppola's signature segmented bowl design.
Padauk: starts reddish orange when freshly cut, darkening substantially over time to a reddish/purplish brown.
Purple Heart: when freshly cut displays a purplish brown. Upon exposure the wood becomes a deeper eggplant purple.
Cherry: light pinkish brown when freshly cut, darkening to a medium reddish brown with time and upon exposure to light.
Walnut: Heartwood can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks.
Curly Maple: Called curly maple because the ripples in the grain pattern create a three dimensional effect that appears as if the grain has “curled” along the length of the board.
Each bowl is hand made in Rockland Maine. The bowls measure fifteen inches in diameter at the top rim, and six inches tall. They will easily accommodate 10-12 side salad portions making them great for family gatherings while not being too big for daily use.
We also make salad tongs to match. They are listed in the Utensils section of our shop. If you do not see any available I am happy to make them upon request.
The photo with fruit inside is to show the volume of the bowls and includes; 3lbs of apples, 3lbs of oranges, 2 mangos, a large bunch of bananas, and dragon fruit. To get the fruit to show well we had to space the lower layers out so everything wasn't sitting too low in the bowl.
Finish: Food grade mineral oil and organic beeswax
Care for your wooden bowls and other wooden kitchen utensils:
Wooden kitchen wares should be hand-washed with soap, warm water, and a non-abrasive cloth or sponge. Never soak your wooden items, or leave them standing without padding off the water first. It is best practice to let them air dry before putting them away in cabinets or other confined areas. If the item is not as bright and vibrant as it once was, a quick wipe with a food safe Oil Wax Finish will bring it back to its original vibrancy. A light wiping with the oil wax finish is all that is needed as your products come seasoned with multiple coats of our homemade mineral oil and beeswax mixture.
If you have any questions we would be more than happy to answer them.
