A scented portal to 1920’s Berlin cabaret.

A chilly, disorienting rose draws you in, to hypnotic depths of opium poppies.
The fog of ether, mixed with cloves and honey floats in the dressing room.
Tobacco and cognac drift in and out with the sounds of the orchestra from the hall.
A dancing apparition! swiftly removes her only garment, a fur coat, leaving a trail of body heat, patchouli and copal.

In 1920s Berlin, hyperinflation was turning fortunes into pennies overnight. Meanwhile, a cultural and artistic revolution was taking place. Many restrictions were being lifted. Women, having freshly gained the right to vote, emerged as club owners and cabaret performers breaking away from conventions.

Anita Berber, 'Queen of The Night', 'Priestess of Debauchery', was perhaps the most extreme, gender bending dancer, cabaret performer and actress of the 1920s.
She was first to wear men’s tuxedoes during performances- thus influencing the style of Marlene Dietrich, one of her lovers. She's also said to be first to incorporate full nudity in her shows. Her specialty were uninhibited dances about addiction, sexuality, mirroring societal depravity.

Among Berber's many vices, she had a ritual of stirring a long stemmed white rose into a strongly intoxicating mixture of ether and chloroform, and then slowly eating the petals one by one.

The white rose accord in this composition is made of infused white petals, and Rose de Mai, the rose most popular in perfumery at the time. Honey and cloves were customarily diluted in ether, to improve taste.

An androgynous, noir floriental.

This perfume is a collaborative project with artist Gretchen Heinel, who provided the inspiration, and feedback throughout the process.

Featured notes: White Rose accord, Opium Poppy, Honey, Clove, Rum, Tobacco, Roots, Dark Patchouli, Copal, Oudh.

Phantom Rose is a dream! I put it on and it was like being transported back to a past life in another time. My senses are in love with this blend. She really captured this period of time perfectly in this scent. I will be ordering a larger size soon. <3

Lighter and softer than my other favorite, Lavender Noir, but no less mysterious nor less powerful, this fragrance is all day dreams and warm afternoon light. It’s a loving adventure in a new world. It brings a mysterious familiar comfort to me, and reminds me of something important from my childhood but I can’t put my finger on it.

What an exquisite scent! It is so difficult to find natural perfumes that also smell expensive. This perfume and all the ones I tried from PhoenixBotanicals really do; they all have a story, the perfume sort of unfolds it through its scent. You can feel the love of the maker for its creation!

Irina is a gifted, magical artist of scent. Phantom Rose is this magical elixir of beauty and sometimes I think Irina is a faerie we are all blessed to share her magic with. I'm blown away. A perfect 10....again.
