WHAT EXACTLY IS THAT STUFF ON MY MASTIFF’S NOSE?

Is your dog’s nose rough, dry and you can tell that big mastiff nose needs moisture? Your Mastiff may simply have a dry nose and NOSE BUTTER® will take care of in a flash. Thank goodness you found us! But if the crust covers the entire nose, is cracked or especially thick and heinous (looks like a tree root or oyster shell on their nose), your Mastiff may have a common condition called Nasal Hyperkeratosis.

Nasal Hyperkeratosis is an idiopathic ¯\(°_o)/¯ (of unknown cause in scientific jargon) chronic condition resulting in a dry protein overgrowth (or keratin overgrowth-more jargon) on your Mastiff’s nose and/or edges of paw pads.

Mastiffs types (like your English Mastiff, Great Danes, Neos, etc.), bulldog breeds, toy breeds and and any breed with a chunky build are more prone to this condition. Some illnesses, a dry environment or certain medications can further cause or aggravate this condition.

Since Nasal Hyperkeratosis IS a condition it probably cannot be “cured” but it can be easily healed and managed with NOSE BUTTER®.

NOSE BUTTER® is individually handcrafted by my team and I here in far northern Minnesota (yes, it is science fiction cold in the winter) using all natural and organic good stuff: shea butter, olive oil, castor oil, avocado oil, almond oil, coconut oil, beeswax, cocoa seed butter, a dash of essential oils and love.

NOSE BUTTER® DIRECTIONS

DAB a bit onto your dog's nose 1-3x a day for 2-3 days (until nose improves) and then as needed for maintenance (usually 1-2x a week).

DISTRACT with a treat (keeps them from licking NOSE BUTTER® off while it moisturizes, though it won't hurt them if they DO lick some off)

DONE!

MASTIFF HISTORY & TIDBITS

English Mastiff History: Proof of Mastiff type dogs dates as far back as 2500 BC. Carvings and bias-reliefs of giant dogs hunting lions have been found in what was called Babylonia. Though taller and leaner than present day dogs, the resemblance is evident.

As happened with people, animals, plants and everything else ancient traders are believed to have brought the Mastiff's ancestors to ancient Britain. Thus the origins of this powerful breed began.

Mastiff Tidbits: Kubla Khan was said to have kept a kennel of 5000 Mastiffs used for hunting and war.

Hannibal took several battalions of mastiffs, trained for battle, as he crossed the Alps. The Mastiffs crossed with local breeds and laid the foundation for the St. Bernard, the Great Pyrenees, the various Swiss giant breeds and more. All of the European giant breeds can trace their roots back to these first giant dogs. The Neapolitan Mastiff, the Dogue de Bordeaux and more all trace their roots back to these dogs.

The royalty of Great Britain kept Mastiffs to guard their castles and estates. A much more intense breed at the time, they roamed the properties at night. Henry VIII gave Charles V of Spain a gift of 400 war-trained Mastiffs. King James I also sent a gift of two Mastiffs to Phillip II of Spain. Mastiff dogs were shown in royal portraits.

The English Mastiff of today is a gentle, family-oriented dog. The ferocity has been carefully subdued, but the Mastiff will rise to the occasion and protect those they love.
