This is a very unusual flower, and a great idea for those who cherish unique things. It is also known as Manettia bicolor, or Manettia luteo-rubra. Before it opens, the two-tone flowers of this vine are similar in size, shape, and color to candy corn. They open into narrow tubes, flaring slightly into 4 tiny petals. The flower has a waxy appearance, and the outside is covered in fuzzy orange red hairs, with 4 very glossy, deep green sepals just below the flower. I've reproduced this as faithfully as possible in polymer clay by applying hundreds of little fuzzy red "hairs" rolled from clay. A little tedious, but no more difficult than needlepoint! The sepals are deep green and are lighter on the reverse. I've applied a bit of glossy polyurethane to the sepals, to give them that shiny, tropical look. There is an opening in the center of this flower and hummingbirds sip sugar water "nectar" through the opening, just as they would from an actual candy corn flower.

A custom made green stopper at the base of the flower fits perfectly into a clear glass, 50 mL, recycled mini liquor bottle. The bottle is very basic and simple in design.. A soft brass wire hanger is twisted around the bottle and is somewhat adjustable to allow for secure hanging at different angles.

Entire length of this feeder is approximately 5 1/16". The flower itself is about 3/4" long, 7/16" wide, and the green sepals spread to about 1 1/4" across.

I have spent a lot of time field testing and perfecting my feeders before I decided to sell them. I'm quite proud of them. They look so natural that hummingbirds respond to them as if they were real flowers. My local Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have eagerly accepted them.

All of my feeders come with the necessary instructions for mixing nectar, filling, hanging, and cleaning. If you have any questions about them, before or after purchase, please feel free to contact me.
