This is a highly detailed iconic image of George Washington after the portrait by Stuart. Printed by the US government on archival card stock. Condition is mint. A superb high impact image for Federal or Colonial decor. Difficult to find print. Size: 9" x 12".

I wrote to the Bureau of Engraving asking about the history of this print and received the following helpful reply:

"The engraving of George Washington appears to be that of miscellaneous die #8980 which is the work of Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) engravers Marcus Baldwin and John Eissler. It was created between 1916 and 1922.

The few records we have seem to indicate that the die was used to make plates that were displayed at the following expositions: Brazilian Centennial Exposition, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, September 7, 1922 through July 31, 1923 and the National Sesquicentennial Exposition, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 31, 1926 through November 30, 1926. For the Golden Gate International Exposition, San Francisco, California, February 18 through 1 October 29,1939; May 25 through September 29, 1940, the engraving was printed both at the exposition and in Washington, D.C. Thank you, BEP"
